Just as officer school cadets became wartime combat leaders so did their instructors.
Shown here at Braunschweig in 1935 are, right, SS-Oberführer Paul Hausser (commander of ‘Das Reich’, II-SS-Panzer-Korps, and finaly in command of an Armee Gruppe) being briefed by school instructor, SS-Obersturmbannführer Matthias Kleinheisterkamp (commanded ‘Nord’, ‘Das Reich’, and 'Polizei’ and finally VI.SS-Armee-Korps.) Both men were highly decorated and attained senior rank. Hausser ended the war as an SS-Oberst-Gruppenführer awarded the Knight’s Cross with Oakleaves and Swords. Kleinheisterkamp, also awarded the Swords to the Knight’s Cross, ended the war as an SS-Obergruppenführer. Of all his accomplishments Hausser was most proud pf Braunschweig. SS-Führerschule
